I love the dissonance between the definition of protocol as a "draft," and then also as "a code prescribing strict adherence." The space between those seems ripe for exploring.
It seems that aspects of the first definition--draft-- is what is meant when the concept of protocol is given as an alternative to "highly centralized, late industrialist," or to "decentralized, peer to peer applications."
